1. KNN Using iBasis Platform to Offer Pre-Paid Services
Kabushikigaisha Nityu NetMedia (KNN), publisher of the Chinese Weekly newspaper in Japan, is using iBasis' IP CallCard hosted platform to offer prepaid calling card services to its more than 15 million subscribers. KNN's service currently offers calling from Japan to China.
iBasis' platform provides all billing service components. IP CallCard gives service providers authentication, authorization, and accounting. The platform's real-time billing services include billing information for post-paid accounts and administration of prepaid calling card balances. Fraud prevention features include real-time deductions, limited PIN retries, and destination limiting. The platform features web-based customer care tools.
3. Frost & Sullivan Releases Latin American Market Study
Frost & Sullivan has released Latin America VoIP Services (report 7943), a market study within the firm's Latin America Telecom Serivces Subscription service.
The firm finds that the international long distance wholesale business in Latin America will grow from 1 billion minutes of use in 2001 to 15.4 billion minutes in 2007. Frost & Sullivan expect VoIP services to skip retail and move directly from TDM to IP trunking and next generation networks.
Other elements of the firm's subscription service include market insights on Latin American data services and ASP services.

5. Oki to Resell Sylantro's Hosted PBX and IP Centrex
Oki Electric Industry will market, install, and support Sylantro's hosted PBX and IP Centrex products in Japan.
Sylantro's applications can be deployed within softswitch-based or legacy Class 5 infrastructures.

7. Tekelec Adds SIP/H.323 Interworking App to MGC
Tekelec has added a SIP/H.323 interworking application for its VXi media gateway controller and SXi SIP server. The technology enables transparent protocol mediation, allowing carriers to interoperate SIP and H.323 networks without overhauling their entire networks. The application delivers H.323 gatekeeper and gateway functionality as well as SIP server functions from a single platform. It supports up to 50,000 simultaneous SIP and H.323 sessions per node pair.
9. Telecom Italia Deploys Cisco & Italtel for VoIP
Telecom Italia, an ICT with more than 27.3 million fixed lines and over 24.1 million mobile lines, has deployed Cisco's MGX 8000 voice gateways and Italtel's VoIP MultiService gear to deliver VoIP services. Currently, the provider uses VoIP for connecting all calls made between Rome and Milan and half of its international calls.
Italtel was the systems integrator for the deployment.
11. VSNL Interconnects with ITXC
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL), India's largest international carrier, has interconnected its network with ITXC's global tier one network.
